LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, AND TRANSGENDER
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Studies Program is an interdisciplinary program that supports teaching and research on the historical and contemporary experience of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, and transgendered people. The program sponsors courses, offers an undergraduate minor, organizes lecture series, facilitates the study of minority sexualities and genders in the broadest interdisciplinary context, and tries to bring together interested students, faculty, and members of the larger Los Angeles community.
Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Campus Resource Center provides a comprehensive range of education, information and advocacy services and works to create and maintain an open, safe and inclusive environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, intersex, transgender, queer, questioning, and same-gender-loving students, faculty, and staff, their families and friends, and the entire campus community |
ETHNIC STUDIES CENTERS
Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies supports research that expands the knowledge of the history, lifestyles, and sociocultural systems of people of African descent and investigates problems that have bearing on the psychological, social, and economic well being of persons of African descent.
Chicano Studies Research Center serves the entire campus and supports faculty and students in the social sciences, life sciences, humanities, and the professional schools. Its research addresses the growing Chicano and Latino population.
Asian American Studies Center was established during the 1969-1970 academic year to "enrich the experience of the entire university by contributing to an understanding of the long neglected history, rich cultural heritage, and present position of Asian Americans in our society."
American Indian Studies Center acts as a focal point for scholars, staff, students and community members who are interested in research, education, and issues about Native Americans.
Center for Southeast Asian Studies promotes independent research and innovative teaching about the histories, languages, societies, and cultures of Southeast Asia and its peoples. To this end, it supports expanded course offerings, hosts visiting scholars and researchers, presents public lectures and cultural programs, organizes conferences and symposia, contributes to the development of library holdings and services, supports undergraduate and graduate study, conducts outreach and teacher-training programs, and builds partnerships with organizations in the local Southeast Asian community and beyond. |
GENDER ISSUES
The Center for Women & Men was founded in 1972 to serve the needs of women and men with special focus on gender-related issues. The programs and services provided by The Center for Women & Men are designed to increase access and retention of students by promoting gender equity, opportunity and advocacy and by addressing issues affecting campus climate. The Center presents workshops, support groups and referrals on many topics, including medical and legal concerns, child care, self defense, assertiveness training, sexual assault prevention and education, career development, single parenting, health, returning to school and personal relationships. It also provides personal counseling on sexual assault and sexual harassment matters.
ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES
The UCLA Sustainable Resource Center has been established by the Graduate Student Association to promote through facilitating the provision of resources, information, and education to the graduate student body, campus and community.
