In this project, I foreground the constructions of contemporary Okinawan identity as it is raced, classed, and gendered through the sociopolitical mechanisms of US militarism, Japanese imperialism, and mili-tourism.

Ginoza received her Ph.D. in American Studies from Washington State University in April of 2010. Her recent research projects include “Social Movements and US Militarism in Okinawa” and “Understanding of Peace and Security in Okinawa.” She served as a graduate instructor in American and Women’s Studies at Washington State University.

Her project explores the complex intersections of tourism, militarism, and interdependencies of the US and Japanese empires that have constructed Okinawan indigenous identity.
