2006 Paula Stone Dissertation Research Fellowship Recipients

Azza Basarudin is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Women’s Studies (now Gender Studies) at UCLA, where she is working on a comparative study of the cultural meaning of Islam in Muslim women’s lives and experiences in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Her other interest includes postcolonial and feminist theory; indigenous feminisms; nationalism and exile; sexuality; and human rights in Islam.
