Shih is the author of The Lure of the Modern: Writing Modernism in Semicolonial China, 1917–1937, and Visuality and Identity: Sinophone Articulations Across the Pacific. She is also the coeditor of Minor Transnationalism and Creolization of Theory. Her other significant editorial project was a special issue of PMLA titled "Comparative Racialization" (October 2008).
