JMEWS (Journal of Middle East Women's Studies) is the official publication of the Association for Middle East Women's Studies, a multidisciplinary, international organization affiliated with the Middle East Studies Association. Its purpose is to advance the fields of Middle East women's studies, gender studies and Middle East studies through contributions across disciplines in the social sciences and humanities.
Published three times a year by Indiana University Press, JMEWS is located at the cutting edge of the new scholarship in Middle East women's studies. The journal encourages research using innovative theoretical, epistemological and methodological approaches. It reflects the explosion of knowledge production about Middle Eastern women and gender over the past quarter century and publishes research informed by transnational feminist studies, cultural studies, modern historical studies, new forms of ethnography, and the emergent intersections of science and philosophy. JMEWS provides a forum in which area-specific questions can be discussed and debated among scholars from the global North and South through articles, book and film reviews and other communications.
