Myrna A. Hant received her Ph.D. in Education from UCLA. Her dissertation topic, “Life Satisfaction of the Well Elderly” has led to an involvement with mature women’s issues. She had previously completed two Masters degrees: English Literature and Business Administration. She was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Delta Kappa for her Bachelor’s in Sociology degree from UCLA. She also received a Certificate in Gerontology from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles
She was a college administrator at Chapman University as well as an instructor in Women’s Studies. Presently she teaches Women’s Studies courses as well as courses focusing on later life issues.

Myrna’s publications have largely focused on the stereotypes of mature women in the media, their contributions to ageism and the few counter- hegemonic portrayals of this media archetype.

She is presently working on the images of older women on television with particular emphasis on Jewish women and African American women.
Myrna has also recently become an advocate for the homeless in Los Angeles County and speaks throughout the city regarding the issues of homelessness. She works directly with homeless men and women to assist them in obtaining employment and consequently to maintain independent lives. She is working on a book that will focus solely on homeless women in Los Angeles County. |
